OneCompliance independent data security consultants were recently approached by a Nordic client to conduct an IT Risk Analysis on their WeChat Account in China.
Our consultants identified and addressed a number of potential IT risks associated with the platform, providing recommendations on how to mitigate and control these risks. A risk matrix was created to help the client stay ahead of any potential risks, while still taking advantage of the competitive advantages offered by the WeChat platform.
WeChat platform is the largest Chinese social media first released in 2011, became the largest standalone APP in the world in 2018 with the monthly active user more than 1 billion mostly in P.R. China.[1] Nearly all foreign companies invested and sell products and/or services in China using Wechat as official account, mini program or communication tools with clients, staffs and other stakeholders. However, data security and individual privacy protection are concerns from users. Protecting your company data security and your subscribers’/users’ individual privacy should be some of the top issues to be addressed.
Onecompliance used a comprehensive risk management methodology to identify and mitigate the potential security and privacy risks in the Wechat Platform. Although not all risks can be removed, however, it would be a good test to identify the tolerance extent of the management and being prepared for the results beforehand.
At OneCompliance, we strive to provide the professional and quality regulatory consulting services to our clients, ensuring they get the best possible experience when using WeChat or any other IT related solutions.
